On the morning of February 23, 2015, over a hundred community leaders gathered to make a difference in the lives of children affected by abuse in the Bronx. They met inside our bright, brand-new Child Advocacy Center<\/a> (CAC) that stands to help the most vulnerable and youngest victims of abuse find hope, end their suffering and bring their perpetrators to justice.<\/p>\n

The Bronx CAC ribbon-cutting ceremony united child abuse advocates, government officials, program directors and Safe Horizon staff members to celebrate the historic opening of a facility that will benefit child abuse victims in New York City. Many of those present heralded from agencies that will work side by side with Safe Horizon in the investigation of cases brought to the CAC.<\/p>\n

A Historic Day for the Bronx<\/h2>\n

\"Howard-Thompson_Bronx-CAC-Ribbon-Cutting\"<\/center>The ribbon-cutting began with powerful words from the morning’s emcee, PIX11\u2019s Howard Thompson, \u201cWe\u2019re here today to end the cycle of violence forever.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

This new CAC plays an important role, as the Bronx has one of the highest rates of child abuse in all of New York City. New York City Administration for Children’s Services Commissioner Gladys Carri\u00f3n spoke out about the statistics: \u201c31% of all child abuse reports in NYC come from the Bronx, the highest rate in the city.<\/em>” She continued “\u2026to do this work, you need a lot of partners. We’ve come together to ensure better outcomes for kids.<\/em>”<\/p>\n

\"Gladys-Carrion_Bronx-CAC-Ribbon-Cutting\"<\/center>The sentiment was echoed by the 14 presenters who spoke out about the importance of opening the center in the Bronx, including Bronx native and Assembly member Michael Blake of District 79. “This is our chance to do something different for the 1.4 million people of the Bronx.<\/em>”<\/p>\n
