About #FaceItNY and the Child Victims Act<\/h1>\n

In New York, victims of most forms of childhood sex abuse must file criminal or civil litigation by their 23rd birthday or lose that opportunity forever. The Campaign to Pass the Child Victims Act seeks to open the doors of justice for all survivors of childhood sexual abuse.<\/p>\n

More than 40,000 children are sexually abused each year in New York State. So many stay silent for years, even decades, because they are fearful that no one will believe them or they will be harmed for telling. Yet when they finally feel safe enough to report their abuse, the law tells them it\u2019s too late.<\/p>\n

NY\u2019s law is out of line with nearly every other state in the nation and must be reformed now. It\u2019s time for New York State Senator John J. Flanagan and NY State Senate leaders to face this issue. They should follow the lead of the State Assembly, which on June 7 passed the Child Victims Act, a bill that would extend the time victims have to bring a case.<\/p>\n

  1. Take a selfie<\/li>\n

  3. Caption with your reason why you support the Child Victims Act #FaceItNY. (e.g. 1 in 4 girls will be sexually abused; I am a survivor; Survivors need access to justice)<\/li>\n
  4. We encourage you to tag @NYPassCVA in your post<\/li>\n
  5. When uploading a photo to Twitter\/Facebook\/Instagram, you can tag people in your photo. Please tag your state representatives and @GovCuomo @LeaderFlanagan. To find your state senator, click here<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  6. Post!<\/li>\n
  7. Spread the word by asking others to share your post and post their own selfies!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
